Licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Electricians and electrical contractors both hold state licences, and both are searchable.
General contracting, remodeling and roofing
Texas issues NO state licence for any of these. Anyone can call themselves a general contractor or a roofer here, which is why references, insurance and a written scope matter more in Texas than in states that license the trade.
Permits
Arlington and the surrounding cities require permits and inspections for additions, structural work, and electrical, plumbing and mechanical work - whatever the state licensing position is. A remodeler who talks you out of a permit is saving themselves time, not saving you money.

A rough guide to where each service fits:

- A tired hall bath, or a primary suite with a tub nobody uses — bathroom remodeling.
- You need another bedroom, a suite, or the garage turned into living space — room additions.
- The back slab is unusable from May to September — patio covers, and the concrete under them.
- Hail, a leak, or a roof at the end of its life — roofing.
- Walls, ceilings, trim, doors or cabinets inside — interior painting.
- Faded, chalking or peeling outside, or you are selling — exterior painting.
- Cracks that keep coming back, holes, water damage or a popcorn ceiling — drywall and texture repair.
- Tile, hardwood, laminate, vinyl or carpet — flooring installation.
- Trim, crown moulding, shiplap, built-ins, or rotten fascia and soffit — carpentry and trim.
- An office, shop, gym or restaurant that still has to open — commercial renovations.
In practice these overlap constantly, and that is the point of hiring one contractor for all of them. A bathroom is demolition, licensed plumbing, waterproofing, tile, carpentry, electrical and paint; a kitchen is all of that plus cabinetry and counters.
